The Widow's Offering
The story goes that one day Jesus sat down with His disciples in front of the treasure house and observed as people put money in the offering box. Many rich people came by and threw large sums of their money inside the box. A few moments afterwards, a poor widow came and put a total of two small copper coins (todays equivalent of a penny). Jesus then called His disciples and told them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
What it means to Give
When you give, understand that God does not look at amounts. Here in Luke 21:1-4, Jesus has appreciated the widow more than the rich people, despite the fact that she only gave literally one penny. This amount is almost equal to nothing in terms of value, yet Jesus was more grateful to her. It is not because she gave a large amount of money, but because she gave out of sincere faith and true sacrifice.
When you offer to the Lord, not just in terms of money but your time, strength and talents, is it because you had some spare of it? Or is it because it is everything you have?
When Jesus died on the cross for us, did He gave us only His spare time? No. He offered His complete life for us, so that we may be redeemed. Isn’t it fitting that we give 100 percent of our life to Him?
When you’re good at singing, offer your songs of
praises to Him with a FULL heart.
When you offer your time to fulfil the will of the Lord,
do it not because you have spare time,
but because you have the faith to give everything to Him.
Offer your strength to the Lord not only when you are strong
but when you are weak as well.
This is what it means to give your offering to God!
